Furthermore, thanks to the Norman Conquest, about 3 out of 10 English words are thought to have original French roots. For instance, English has adopted more "loanwords" , which are straight from French, than any other living language. Some of these "Loanwords", include absinthe, blancmange, concierge, dauphin, envoi, fĂȘte, gourmand, hollandase, impasse.
